Lasting Peace

Proverbs 16:7 - "When a man’s ways are pleasing to the Lord, he makes even his enemies to be at peace with him."

Solomon understood this verse emphatically. His reign was demonstrative of the most peaceful time in all of Israel's history. That is, until his later years when he was drawn away by his foreign wives to worship other deities. Then, he reaped the proverbial whirlwind through his posterity, Rehoboam, who was the catalyst of the divided kingdom.

Likewise, when we are in obedience to the will of the Lord in our lives, we set a hedge of protection about us and our families. As fathers and men, we should be leaders of our households, not giving the enemy an opportunity. The devil and his minions only recognize strength and power. Their obeisance will be a reality in our lives – all of our days – If we will but please the Lord through our faithfulness to Him. However, if we ever seek to strike out on our own, we will reveal our weakness to the enemy of our souls who will take quick advantage. May we submit always to the Lover of our souls who grants us lasting peace.
